Melvin the Machine by HEYHEYHEY

Melvin the Machine by HEYHEYHEY from Dezeen on Vimeo.

In this movie filmed in a warehouse on the outskirts of Eindhoven, the ringing of an alarm clock triggers a chain of events that opens umbrellas, spins paper windmills, starts a fire and releases a set of parachuting toy animals.

Dutch design studio HEYHEYHEY originally constructed the machine, named Melvin, during Dutch Design Week 2010 but reassembled this improved version a year later.

I have been thinking about Lee today. Lee's mastery and total understanding of interdisciplinary practice involved the translation & connection of the human psyche. He used many methods: fetish, appropriation, historical figures, myth & 14th to the 21st century imagery that resulted in a body of fantastic fashion; how astounding. ♥ A.L.M.

CLOSE UP AND PRIVATE's etiquette for the modern classicist

CLOSE UP AND PRIVATE's etiquette for the modern classicist,
a loosely compiled list of scrupulous style cues for gentlemen

Slim cut suits with short legged trousers go a long way.
Buy a pair of wingtips and loafers.
The Beatles sir, listen to them – and do so regularly.
Owning at least 3 oxford shirts has never done a man any harm.
Be a gentleman towards women.
Own several ties – n.b. Four-in-hand knots only – mix things up with a bow tie.
Watch all movies by Andrei Tarkovsky. Re-watch them.
Always consider a well-fitting navy blazer with gold buttons.
Serge Gainsbourg looked smart in a trench coat and so do you.
Own a classic cashmere v-neck and a round-neck pull-over.
Kaki chino trousers are as essential as they are basic.
Choose your pair meticulously.
Cherish a good relationship with your parents.
Sometimes looking at a nice black and white picture of your grandfather
as a young man wearing his Sunday-suit can learn you more about classic style
than reading 20 fashion magazines.
A watch – you do own one do you? - should be flat, vintage, and have a leather band.
Be punctual.
Ray Ban sunglasses matter.
Stay current.
Trust the classics.

Artist D*Face + Skateboarding = LOVE

Artist D*Face hooked up a crazy-ass spray paint skateboard system. “What better way to paint the pool then letting everyone get involved? With high-tech remotely controlled spray can apparatus mounted to the underside of skateboards…every line a skater took became the paint job of the pool.”

Gay of the Day: James (Arthur) Baldwin (1924-1987)

American writer, noted for his novels on sexual and personal identity, and sharp essays on civil-rights struggle in the United States. Baldwin also wrote three plays, a children's storybook, and a book of short stories. He gained fame with his first novel, GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN (1953), a story of hidden sins, guilt, and religious torments. In this and subsequent works Baldwin fused autobiographical material with analysis of social injustice and prejudices. Several of his novels dealt with homosexual liaisons.

I First read  GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN in 9th grade, I had no Idea Who James was or what he was about.  I had to pick a book out of a reading list & I randomly chose him; the irony of this choice was almost fate like.
